Basketball Announces 2007 Recruiting Class
Friday, July 27, 2007 - LSUE Public Relations

Louisiana State University at Eunice’s head women’s basketball coach Michael Bari released the names of his recruits for the upcoming season.

Bari had to replace four starters from LSUE’s record breaking season that found the Lady Bengals finishing fourth in the country and making an appearance in the NJCAA Division II final four.

“It will be tough to replace the players we lost to graduation, but I believe we have the potential with this group coming in to be a very competitive team in 2007-2008,” said Bari.

Joining the team are:

Danielle Morgan, a 6-0 freshman from Bossier City, who played ball at Airline High School. She will be counted on to be a low post presence for the Lady Bengals. Averaging eight points and ten rebounds a game for the 5-A powerhouse, Morgan possesses the ability to run the floor extremely well and to be a force on the boards. Bari added that she also carries a 3.7 GPA and scored a 28 on her entrance exam.

Casey Primeaux, a 5-8 freshman from Erath, was a starter at Erath High School. She comes in to the LSUE program as a long range shooter, and according to Bari, has great work ethic which is the type of player he likes to have on his roster. Primeaux holds many of the Erath’s offensive records and also carries an extremely high GPA of 3.5.

Areil Dimes, a 5-9 freshman from New Orleans played ball at Rayne High School after being transplanted by Hurricane Katrina. She will bring an athletic body to the Lady Bengal roster and Bari said she brings excitement to the court as a slasher and scorer.

Lacey Thibodeaux, a 5-9 freshman from Jennings, is a 2,050 point career scorer at Louisiana Bethel Christian High School. The Class B MVP started on her varsity team since the 7th grade and can score from inside and outside. Bari said she is aggressive, smart and works extremely hard. Coming off of knee surgery, Thibodeaux could be the sleeper out of all the recruits as being the most productive. She also is extremely bright in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA.

Courtney LeBlanc, a 5-9 freshman from Agley, Louisiana, played at South Beauregard High School. According to Bari, she is another hard nose player that will be a defensive stopper and an energizer on the floor. She has good basketball instincts and makes plays on both ends of the floor.

Val Barnard, a 5-11 freshman from Beau Chene High School. Val is a big body and work horse inside but also has a great touch from the outside, said Bari. She was a three year starter for the Lady Gators.

Mallory Thornton, a 5-7 freshman from Lake Charles, was a starter at Sam Houston High School. Thornton is a hard nose point guard who sees the floor well. Bari added that she is an in-your-face defender.

Chelsie Guillory, a 5-8 sophomore from Lafayette, played at St. Thomas More High School and is a transfer from Mississippi Gulf Community College in Perkinston, Mississippi. Guillory is an excellent passer, penetrator and play maker. She, according to Bari, will make everyone better on the floor. Guillory participated in the Louisiana All-Star Game at LSU and was named to the all-district and all-parish squads during her senior year.

Returning from the 2007 National Tournament team for the Lady Bengals will be starters Kayla Armstrong and Katelyn Gary. Additional key returnees will be Natalie Engler, Rudy Perkins, and Jessica Pipkins.
