2nd Annual Homecoming Day, October 3
Monday, September 22, 2008 - Madelaine Landry, LSUE Foundation

WELCOME HOME TO OUR LSUE alums, retirees and loyal community supporters -- come help us celebrate this newest campus tradition. The day will explore Acadiana’s unique culinary roots and its contributions to Louisiana’s famous gumbo of flavors.

The morning begins with breakfast at the Jean Lafitte Prairie Cultural Center in downtown Eunice (next to the Liberty Theater). New Orleans slow food and culinary activist, Poppy Tooker, will present a cooking demonstration and presentation on Creole Rice Calas -- a short documentary entitled PIE DAY will also be shown, and the morning's activities will end with a presentation by Acadia Parish's own boudin-maker and Cajun fiddler extraordinaire, Bubba Frey.

At NOON, the fun moves to the LSUE campus with FREE food, music and memory-making under the beautiful oak trees in the newly completed Commemorative Brick Plaza. Boudin, sides, salads, desserts and beverages will be served FREE to all who join us!

Marcelle Bienvenu, the Queen of Cajun Cooking and Amanda LaFleur, Coordinator of Cajun Studies at LSU, will present more Cajun-Creole food information. Live music by the Lafayette Rhythm Devils will help attendees work off their excess calories. Recipes and oral culinary histories will be collected by the LeDoux Library staff. Dr. Charles Allen will end the day's activities with his presentation on Native Foods and Teas that are native to the Cajun prairie.

REMEMBER: The entire day's events are FREE to the public --please invite your friends, family and community to join us at LSUE.

Sponsored by SLEMCO, CLECO, Allstate Insurance (John Guillory), Acadian Medical Center, Southwest Groups, Frey Services, Mello Joy Coffee, St. Landry Homestead, Donald Mayeux, and Pucheu, Pucheu and Robinson, Attorneys.
