LSUE’s Pathways Earns National Award
Wednesday, November 05, 2008 - LSUE Public Relations

EUNICE – LSU Eunice’s Pathways to Success was one of three institutions recently named a 2008 Outstanding Program Award for Academic Advising according to the National Academic Advising Association at its national meeting.

The structured program targets first year students who need to brush up on writing, mathematics, and reading prior to taking their first general education course in college. The program impacts approximately 350 students per semester on the Eunice campus.

“The advising award recognizes the hard work of full time staff and faculty advisors who meet with students on a regular basis to discuss everything from their current grades to their goals for being in college,” said Paul Fowler, the Director of Developmental Education. “Academic advisors comment that no topic is off limits and advising visits are often as much about life’s problems as they are specifically related to class assignments.”

The Pathways to Success program is unique to LSUE noted Fowler. The program also requires attendance in class and tutoring in mathematics and English. The most striking result is that students who need the most help are successfully completing mathematics and English courses at a rate consistent with the national averages.
