LSUE Commencement Set for 3 p.m. Friday, December 19

EUNICE – Dr. Michael Gargano, Vice President for Student and Academic Support Services for the LSU System will be the commencement speaker when Louisiana State University at Eunice holds fall graduation ceremonies at 3 p.m. Friday, December 19, in the gymnasium of the Health and Physical Education Building.

In his capacity as Vice President for Student and Academic Support Services, Gargano has the primary responsibility for collaborating with each System campus in achieving LSU System enrollment, retention and graduation goals. In addition, he is responsible for developing strategic plans that successfully monitor the effective academic performance of the LSU System campuses. Gargano represents the LSU System on the Board of Regents committees and other national organizations and agencies.

Gargano’s twenty-eight year career in higher education has included public and private universities. He has served at the University of Hartford, the University of Rhode Island, The George Washington University and the University of Massachusetts. Gargano joined the LSU System in February.

His administrative experience at the state, institutional and departmental levels has included: Board of Supervisor and senior management policy development, staff recruitment and retention, media relations and crisis management, contract negotiations and labor relations, budget development and analysis, strategic planning and program development, fundraising and institutional development, undergraduate and graduate student recruitment; enrollment management, facilities and conference/event management, food services and housing, summer youth educational programs and athletic administration.

Some 100 students are candidates for graduation. Included are students who completed degree requirements during the summer as well as fall semester graduates.

LSUE offers associate degrees in liberal arts, science, computer information technology, criminal justice, early childhood education, fire science, general studies, management, nursing, office information technology, paralegal studies, radiologic technology, and respiratory care, as well as certificates in arson investigation, fire science, and office procedures.
