EUNICE – Enrollment for the spring 2009 at Louisiana State University at Eunice was up nine percent over the spring of 2008, according to final regular semester enrollment figures released by the university’s registrar’s office.
Enrollment is 2,954 students, up over last spring and 311 short of the university’s all time enrollment record of 3,265 set in 2003.
The university’s administration was please with the growth at a time when Louisiana high school graduating classes are shrinking in size when compared to the growth being currently experienced throughout the majority of states.
“This means that LSUE’s reputation for being a high quality, LSU campus, where student’s are know by their name and not number, along with LSUE’s 40-year record for student success upon graduation or transfer—all for half of the Louisiana public university price – are facts that are becoming both better-known and appreciated in the Acadiana region,” said LSUE Chancellor William Nunez.
The enrollment boost is not just being felt on the Eunice Campus. LSUE experienced significant growth in central Louisiana at the university’s sites at the Learning Center for Rapides Parish and on the LSU-Alexandria campus. Enrollment in the school’s Advanced Credit Program on high school campuses and in LSUE’s online degree program are also up over last spring.
“The increase also reflects positively upon LSUE’s successful efforts to expand its service region, by Board of Regents’ request, into Central Louisiana, in order to provide the same level of quality and service to this underserved region of Louisiana citizens,” said Nunez.
Students from 47 parishes are enrolled in LSUE classes, including off-campus classes. Parishes with 20 or more students attending LSUE this spring are St. Landry, 824; Acadia, 529; Evangeline, 364; Lafayette, 323; Rapides, 208; Vermilion, 105; St. Martin, 88; Iberia, 71; Jeff Davis, 70; Allen, 68; Calcasieu, 36; Avoyelles, 36; East Baton Rouge, 33; St. Tammany, 27; St. Mary, 20; Grant, 20; and 17 students from out-of-state.
