Friday, April 17: Kickoff Celebrations
Noon in LeDoux Library Blair Kilpatrick will lecture on her book Accordion Dreams. Ms. Kilpatrick’s appearances are sponsored by LSU-Eunice’s Performing Arts Series, Honors Program, and LeDoux Library.
6:30 p.m. in Health Technology Auditorium Kilpatrick lectures on her journey into Cajun and Creole Music. The presentation will include a jam session with local musicians.
Saturday, April 18, 2009 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Mini Basketball Camp (Boys and Girls, ages 6 – 15) Have fun with the LSU-Eunice Lady Basketball Team. The camp will feature dribble relays, dribble tag, knock-out contests; and developing basketball skills (shooting, dribbling, etc.).
Participants may come any time of the day—no pre-registration is required. The emphasis is on FUN.

Juggling Demonstrations and Lessons

Natural History Exhibit: LSU-Eunice’s Division of Sciences will display their collection of various animal artifacts.

Giveaways Throughout the Day
Exhibitions: LeDoux Library Iconography. Sylvia Inzerella’s Iconography is a collection of thirty icon artworks of Inzerella’s interpretation of religious icons. It is an enchanting exhibit that has a warm glow and presence that is both historic and spellbinding.
Meet the Folks Behind the Food. This is a photographic collection from the Southern Foodways Alliance at Ole Miss. The exhibit captures photographs of some of the distinctive food cultures and people in the South. From boudin makers to barbeque specialists, Southern food is distinctive and known worldwide.
Getting “Pie-eyed” Raffle—a sweet dough pie each month. In conjunction with the Southern Foodways Alliance photographic exhibit and a salute to the local culinary and food community, the library will be selling “Pie-eyed” raffle tickets for a local sweet dough pie of the month. The winner gets a sweet dough pie each month. Tickets are $1.00 each and can be purchased in the LeDoux Library or by calling 337.550.1380. The drawing for the pies will be held on Community Day.
Educational and Informational Booths Natural History Exhibit. Specimens from the LSU Eunice Vertebrate Collection will be on display. These backboned animals represent species collected and prepared by students in their study of Natural History taught by the collection curator, Mr. Avery A. Williams. The collection includes liquid preserved fishes, amphibians, reptiles, mammal skins, and skeletal material. Mr. Williams and his students will be on site to present the animals and answer questions for the curious.
Blood Pressure and Health Information. LSU-Eunice nursing students and faculty will be available to measure blood glucose and blood pressure levels and to distribute health information.
FOR SALE at Vendors’ Booths: Purchase snacks, arts, and crafts from campus organizations and local vendors.

Poetry Readings and Open Mic Join our students and faculty as they read their poetry and short stories. There will be an open mic for the audience to read their work. Paying for College Understand all of your options when it comes to paying for college. LSU-Eunice’s Office of Financial Aid will give you the latest information about college costs, scholarships, financial aid applications, education loans, and college financing.
Campus Tours LSU-Eunice students will be available to give tours of our lovely campus.
See What’s Online at the Library Information isn’t always free – except at the library! The LeDoux Library has a wide variety of books and magazines in print – and also online! Come to the library to get a virtual tour of some of our newest electronic books and magazines, great for school projects or curiosity. Some of them can even be read at your home!
Telling Stories & You at LSUE It’s story and reading time, again! Come by the LeDoux Library and listen to a great story. Find out how your children can participate in a FREE reading program in June 2009. LeDoux Library will host the Family Prime Time Reading Program funded by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. Books can transport us to many foreign places and at different times . . . this summer’s Prime Time will focus on “Journeys.” This Community Day event is just the beginning of a fabulous reading journey.
New Hope Fellowship’s Sign Language Choir Watch as the choir gives beautiful interpretations of some of your favorite songs.
